Metrodata Network Solutions was recently engaged to provision 'LAN Extension' connectivity for an Internationally renowned Telecoms Service Provider on behalf of their client, a global Financial Information Services organisation.

The challenge faced by the Service Provider was to provide connectivity to customers of their client, i.e. Financial institutions worldwide. This customer base included some institutions for whom the Service Provider's standard Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) portfolio, typically US manufactured products including Routers from Cisco Inc., would be inappropriate due to export control restrictions.

Initially, Metrodata Network Solutions was engaged to extend connectivity between the Service Provider's nearest 'Global Point of Presence' (GPOP) and their client's customer locations, by means of Layer-2 Ethernet 'LAN Extension'. The solution required VLAN separation of traffic both between multiple client services and between data services and Management traffic. This required a bespoke development to extend the capabilities of products provided by Equipment Manufacturer Metrodata Ltd.

Ultimately, Metrodata Network Solutions was further engaged to provide not only the necessary Networking hardware, but also dedicated 2Mbps Leased Line circuits between the Service provider's GPOP and end-customer locations. After an initial trial period, the first customers went live with this solution early in 2010 and Metrodata Network Solutions now provides 24x365 help desk and on-site maintenance services for this solution.
